LJ’s Fencing & Garden Services put up new fences and repair existing ones for homes across Bracknell, from Warfield and Binfield in the north to Martins Heron and Harmans Water. That might be a run of panels that has started to lean, a post that has snapped at ground level after a storm, or a boundary that has reached the end of its life. We look at the fence, tell you honestly whether a repair will do the job, and give you a clear quotation before any work starts.
Bracknell grew as a new town after the Second World War, so many homes sit on estates where back gardens run side by side and share long fence lines. When one post fails on a shared boundary, the panels either side tend to follow, and the problem soon reaches next door. It usually makes sense to agree the work with your neighbour first, and we can explain the job to both of you. Many estate homes also have open front gardens, and some estates have rules about front fences, so check your deeds or ask Bracknell Forest Council before a new front boundary goes up.
A new fence starts with the line and the posts. We set out the boundary, take down the old fence where there is one, and fit new posts and panels so the fence runs straight and level along the garden. The ground varies across the town, from heavier clay around Warfield and Binfield to lighter, sandier soil further south, and that affects how posts are set and how well water drains away from them. As a general guide, a fence up to 2 metres high does not normally need planning permission, or up to 1 metre where it sits beside a road.
Not every fence needs replacing. A single broken panel, a loose post or a section pushed over by wind can often be put right on its own, which keeps the cost down and leaves the rest of the fence in place. If the posts are rotten along the whole run, a repair only buys a little time, and we will tell you that plainly so you can decide what to do.
If an old fence is past saving, we take it down and remove the old panels and posts before the new one goes in. We can also remove old or unsafe fencing on its own, for example where you are opening up part of a garden.
Whether it is one panel or a whole boundary, the jobs we take on in Bracknell include:
A new fence often shows up how tired the rest of the garden looks. If you would like the lawn, hedges and borders looked after too, our gardeners in Bracknell can take that on, and our main fencing services page has more on how we work.
We fit and repair fences across Bracknell and the nearby areas of Warfield, Binfield, Winkfield Row, Martins Heron, Harmans Water and Forest Park. We are based in Datchet and also work in Maidenhead and Wokingham. For everything else we do in the town, see our Bracknell page.
A: It depends on your deeds. Some deeds show a T mark on the side of the boundary that each owner looks after, but many do not, and plenty of neighbours simply agree to share the cost. If you are unsure, check your deeds or ask HM Land Registry before work starts.
A: Yes. If the rest of the fence is sound, we can replace a single panel or post and match it as closely as we can to the existing fence. We will also let you know if the posts either side look likely to fail soon.
